It belongs to the olivine mineral group and is formed deep within the Earth's mantle. Peridot's striking green color is caused by the presence of iron within its crystal structure. This gemstone has been cherished for centuries and has a rich history of use in jewelry, dating back to ancient Egypt. Peridot is known for its remarkable clarity and brilliance, often exhibiting a glassy luster when cut and polished. Major sources of peridot include Egypt, Myanmar, Pakistan, China and Arizona in the United States.

Peridot, one of the oldest-known gemstones, is admired for its vibrant green color, remarkable clarity, and brilliance. It's one of the few gemstones that comes in only one color, caused by the presence of iron within its crystal structure. Unlike most gemstones formed in the Earth’s crust, peridot forms in the molten rock of the Earth’s upper mantle and can be found in lava, ultramatic rocks, and even meteorites. Peridot is the traditional birthstone for the month of August.
