Mexican Fire Opal, known for its vibrant hues ranging from yellow and orange to deep red, receives is signature color from traces of iron. Unlike most opals, Mexican Fire Opal can be faceted, but requires special care due to its sensitivity to temperature and humidity changes. Formed in volcanic rock, this gem was used as early as 850 AD by the Aztecs. Opal is traditionally associated with the 34th wedding anniversary and is the birthstone for October.
Use a soft cloth to gently wipe clean the item you wish to clean. Remove any remaining impurities with mild diluted soap. Rinse with warm water and dry thoroughly before storing away. Do not use abrasive cleaners, steamers or ultrasonic machines. Do not submerge or clean any of our gemstones with liquid cleaners.
